
Women’s Team Competes at Kane Invitational

ITHACA, N.Y. – A small squad from the University at Buffalo women's track team competed at Cornell's Robert J. Kane Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
Highlighting the day was freshman redshirt Allison Newton placing 2nd in the women's 800m in a personal best time of 2:20.22, nearly 5 seconds better than her previous best time. Placing 4th was freshman teammate Alyssa Rotondo in an indoor personal best time of 2:25.07, while freshman teammate Lauren O'Rourke placed 6th of 23 runners. In the women's Mile, freshman Lexi Bernard placed 9th of 35 in a season's best time of 5:35.60. Redshirt Junior Hannah Sullivan and redshirt freshman Anna Recktenwalt both ran strong season openers in the Mile, with Anna running a personal best.
In the women's 3000m, Freshman Paris Welker ran her first collegiate track meet placing 6th in 10:56.44. Alex Cowley, sophomore, ran a lifetime best by over 20 seconds, placing 9th in a time of 11:01.54. Also running strong performances were freshman Bronagh Cassidy in a season's best (11:10.24), Brianna Urban in a season's best (11:21.09) and running a new lifetime personal best Libby Powers (11:26.12).
"We took a young group of women distance runners to compete and develop their racing skills. Nearly everyone came away with a season's best or personal best mark, reflecting their consistent work in training," stated Head Coach Vicki Mitchell. "I am very pleased with the progress and expect to see continued growth through the rest of the indoor season and the outdoor season."

The men's and women's programs will split squads between the Collegiate Indoor Games at the Spire Institute and the Hemery Valentine Invitational hosted by Boston University on Friday, Feb. 10 and Saturday, Feb. 11.
