Bulls Can’t Slow Down Rockets in Toledo
2/25/2023 4:36:00 PM | Men's Basketball
TOLEDO, Ohio – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (13-16, 7-9 MAC) lost to the Toledo Rockets (23-6, 14-2 MAC) on Saturday afternoon, 101-71. LaQuill Hardnett and Zid Powell led the Bulls with 20 points each. Isaiah Adams finished with 15 points, rounding out the Bulls finishing in double figures. Armoni Foster had a team-high five assists as the Bulls finished with 13.
For the first six minutes of the game, both teams were going toe-to-toe. The Bulls had three leads in that span, but then the Rockets took a 13-11 lead. On the inbounds, the Bulls had a costly turnover as Toledo drilled a three to take a 16-11 lead. Buffalo took a timeout to quiet the crowd and slow the momentum. A few minutes later off a Curtis Jones fastbreak layup, the Bulls trailed by two with Toledo up, 21-19. That was the closest the game would get as Toledo was lights out on the day.
In the first half alone, Toledo was 21-for-34 (61.8%) from the floor. This included going 8-of-13 (61.5%) from three-point range. The Bulls were 13-for-31 (41.9%) from the floor and 5-of-16 (31.3%) from three.
On the day, Toledo made 13 more shots from the floor as both teams attempted 66 shots. The Rockets were 39-for-66 (59.1%) as the Bulls were 26-for-66 (39.4%). Off the 25 three-pointers the Bulls attempted, only seven dropped through the netting. Toledo was 13-for-23 (56.5%) overall.
This was just the third time this season that Buffalo drops a contest with a positive assists-to-turnover ratio.
The Bulls finished with five blocks, as Jonnivius Smith and Isaac Jack had two each. Zaakir Williamson had one block.
The Bulls will stay on the road as they'll play at Northern Illinois on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at 8 p.m. This will conclude the Bulls' road schedule as they'll wrap up the regular season at home on Friday, March 3 at 7 p.m. against Miami (OH) at 7 p.m. for Senior Night.
