
Bulls Defeat Jacksonville State for First Win of the Season

JACKSONVILLE, Ala. – The University at Buffalo softball team (1-3, 0-0 MAC) defeated the Jacksonville State Gamecocks (3-1, 0-0 ASun) to close out the Jax State Season Opener on Sunday afternoon, 7-5.
The Bulls got on the board early in the first inning off a throwing error off an Alexis Lucyshyn single. Brianna Castro gave the Bulls the 1-0 lead. The Gamecocks answered in the bottom of the first to tie the game at one. Jacksonville State took a 2-1 lead in the second inning off a fielding error.
The Bulls tied the game off an Abbey Nagel double to left scoring Castro. Mia Mitchell helped the Bulls take the lead after drilling a ball to center allowing Nagel to score. With the Bulls up 3-2, they never trailed the rest of the way. In the fourth innings Madison Fernimen doubled to right scoring Castro and Sara Kelly. In the fifth inning Julia Taranto hit a two-run homer to extend Buffalo's lead to 7-2.
The Gamecocks' comeback fell short despite a two-run homer in the sixth and a late RBI single in the seventh.
Lucyshyn went the distance allowing four hits, two earned runs, and striking out four.
The Bulls are back in action Thursday, Feb. 16 at the UTEP Invitational. They'll face Texas Tech at 1 p.m. ET followed by UTEP at 4 p.m. ET.
