
Bulls Fall in MAC Semifinal to Bowling Green

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (23-8, 13-5 MAC) fell in the MAC Tournament Semifinals to Bowling Green (18-12, 11-7 MAC) in straight sets. The Bulls fall short of their first MAC Title appearance.
In back-to-back seasons, the Bowling Green Falcons eliminated the Bulls from advancing to the MAC Championship game.
The Bulls dropped the match in straight sets, 17-25, 21-25, 21-25. A major factor in the match was the hitting percentage. The Bulls finished with a percentage of .272 to Bowling Green's .434. The Falcons finished with 47 kills to Buffalo's 39. Bowling Green's Lauryn Hovey couldn't be stopped as she finished with a match-high 20 kills.
Katrin Trebichavska led the Bulls with 13 kills as Manoela Forlin added 10 kills. Mandy Leigh had 33 assists on the night.
The Bulls struggled to get going in the first set as they never had a lead despite tying the set five times. Bowling Green was nearly perfect as they hit .550 with just two attack errors. The Bulls hit .107 with 11 kills and eight errors. Buffalo made a late run and trailed 18-17, but the Falcons closed out the set on a 7-0 run.
The Bulls led 2-0 to start the second set and had multiple two-point leads. Buffalo forced a Bowling Green timeout leading 9-7 after a 4-0 run. After tying the set at 15, the Falcons never trailed the rest of the way. The Bulls were outhit, .419 to .333.
The Bulls fell into an early 6-2 hole and couldn't get out. The Falcons led by as many as eight, but with hope dwindling, the Bulls started to come back. Bowling Green took the set, 25-21, to advance to the MAC Championship against Western Michigan.
