Bulls Host 9-0 Ball State for Two Game Series

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo women's volleyball team (17-4, 7-2 MAC) will host the Ball State Cardinals (12-8, 9-0 MAC) for a two-game series starting on Friday evening at 6 p.m. Ball State is currently the No. 2 seed with the Bulls right behind in third in the MAC Standings.
The Bulls are off to a 7-2 start in MAC play, their best start in program history. Ball State will come to Alumni Arena as one of two undefeated teams in MAC play, Western Michigan being the other. The Bulls have only beaten the Cardinals once in program history and look to change things this weekend.
The Bulls are coming off a straight set victory over the Akron Zips on Tuesday evening. This marked the ninth straight set victory on the season for the Bulls, the second most in the MAC. In the match, junior libero Maria Futey surpassed 1,000 career digs. She is just the 11th Bull in program history to reach this mark. Teammate Abby Leigh also reached 1,000.0 career points after a 12.0-point performance.
On the season, the Bulls are 12-3 when two players have 10 or more kills in a match. Katrin Trebichavska leads the team with 14 matches with 10 or more kills. There have been 18 double-doubles on the year by the Bulls. Mandy Leigh leads the team with 12, followed by Trebichavska (3), Manoela Forlin (2), and Maurine Calande (1).
Buffalo has the top hitting duo in the MAC with Courtney Okwara and Abby Leigh. Okwara ranks second in the nation at with A. Leigh at 63rd in the NCAA and third in the MAC.
2023 four-time MAC East Setter of the Week M. Leigh is 67th in the NCAA (third in the MAC) averaging 9.84 assists per set. Trebichavska has 46 service aces on the season, good for second in the country and first in the MAC. Her 0.62 aces per set is fourth in the NCAA and leads all MAC players. As a team, they're one of the best offenses and defenses in the country. The Bulls have a .263 hitting percentage, which is 30th in the country. They limit their opposition to just a .183 hitting percentage, good for 82nd in the NCAA and second in the MAC.
