
Bulls Host Ball State For Weekend Series

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball returns home to host Ball State in a three-game series this weekend at Nan Harvey Field.
Weekend play will start with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 1pm and will conclude with a single game on Sunday at 12pm. Sunday will also be Senior Day where UB will honor four student-athletes for their contributions to the program.
The Bulls are 15-19 overall and 6-10 in MAC play after dropping a midweek series at Akron.
Buffalo is led at the plate by junior Alexis Lucyshyn who owns a .297 batting average on a team-best 30 hits, including four doubles and four home runs, 19 RBI and 13 runs scored while recording a .393 on base percentage. Sophomore Rachel Steffan brings consistency as she is batting .283 with 28 hits, four doubles, three triples, six home runs, 22 RBI and 23 runs scored while leading the team with a .566 slugging percentage. Junior Brianna Castro is also a veteran presence at the plate as she is batting .283 to go with 28 hits, nine doubles, a triple, three home runs, 14 RBI and 15 runs scored.
Lucyshyn also leads UB in the circle as she owns an 8-5 overall record, including 12 complete games, with a 3.21 ERA and has struck out 85 batters while allowing just 24 walks in 111.1 innings of work. Sophomore Julia Tarantino has also been solid in the circle as she is 7-11 overall with 11 complete games and an ERA of 4.36, while striking out 65 batters to just 24 walks in 104.1 innings pitched.
Ball State enters the weekend series in a tie for third place in the MAC standings with an 18-23 overall record and an 11-6 league mark after sweeping a midweek series against Western Michigan. The Cardinals are led offensively by Faith Hensley who is batting .427 with a team-best 50 hits, including four doubles, two triples and 16 home runs, 36 RBI and 43 runs scored while recording a team-best .906 slugging and .562 on base percentage. McKayla Timmons is also a force at the plate as she is batting .337 with 29 hits, seven doubles, four home runs, 23 RBI and 18 runs scored while recording a .453 on base percentage. Deborah Jones leads Ball State in the circle as she has compiled a 5-5 overall record, including five complete games, and a 2.66 ERA with 68 strikeouts in 68.1 innings of work across 18 appearances. The Cardinals also rely on Angelina Russo as she is 9-8 overall with a 4.42 ERA and 73 strikeouts in 106.0 innings pitched.
After the weekend series, the Bulls will take on a pair of local rivals as UB hosts St. Bonaventure in a single game on Tuesday, April 26 at 3pm before traveling across town for a doubleheader at Canisius on Wednesday beginning at 2pm.
