Bulls Drop Regular Season Finale At Kent State

KENT, OH – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team ended the regular season with a 70-65 loss at Kent State on Friday night as the Golden Flashes won their 12th straight game. The Bulls will now turn their attention to the Mid-American Conference Tournament where they enter as the five-seed and will face #4 Akron on Thursday.
The Bulls actually outshot the Golden Flashes in the game, but were undone by 17 turnovers, as well as allowing 17 offensive rebounds to Kent State.
UB went 3-of-3 from the three-point line to open the game as the Bulls took an 11-6 lead five minutes in. However, the Golden Flashes began to heat up from three nd went on a 21-4 run to take their largest lead of the night at 27-15 with 8:23 left.
However, the Bulls got solid minutes off the bench from LaQuill Hardnett, who scored six points during an 8-0 run as the Bulls pulled within four with 5:06 left. Kent State would go on to take an eight-point lead into the break
In the second half, Buffalo quickly cut the deficit to four, but the Golden Flashes would again lead by double figures. Kent State continued to lead 62-52 when the Bulls rattled off nine straight points, from four different scorers. A dunk from David Skogman pulled the Bulls within just one point at 62-61 with 3:54 left.
Unfortunately, the Bulls wouldn't get any closer as Kent State scored the next four to regain a 66-61 lead. UB cut it to a single possession at 66-63 with 1:07 left, but never got any closer as Kent State came away with the five-point win.
Jeenathan Williams led the Bulls with 18 points, while adding five boards and five assists. Ronaldo Segu added 14 points and four assists and Hardnett had 12 points and two steals off the bench.
Josh Mballa finished with seven points and a game-high 10 boards, while Skogman added five points.
Tra'von Fagan added four off the bench and Keishawn Brewton had three points, four rebounds, and two steals.
Kent State finished even with the Bulls on the glass as both teams had 38 rebounds. UB and Kent State also finished tied in points off turnovers, points in the paint, and fast break points.
The Bulls will be back in action as they open play at the Mid-American Conference Tournament on Thursday in the quarterfinals. UB will face Akron at approximately 1:30 pm at the Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse in downtown Cleveland.
