
Bulls Drop 4-3 Heartbreaker To Northern Illinois

WILLIAMSVILLE, NY – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team went toe-to-toe with Northern Illinois on Sunday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center, but the Bulls ultimately dropped a marathon match, 4-3.
UB won the opening doubles point to begin the afternoon. Yu-Shiang Huang and Cheng Tang played at the first doubles spot and came away with a 7-5 win, while Finn Macnamara and Greg Hastings continued their strong play with a 7-6 win, which gave the Bulls an early 1-0 lead.
Tang moved up to first singles and had an impressive 7-5, 6-2 victory at the top spot. The Huskies picked up straight set wins at two and four to tie the match up and then took a 3-2 lead with a three-set win at five. Daniils Snaiders tied the match back up at third singles with a 6-2, 0-6, 6-3 win as the contest was all squared away at 3-3 with just sixth singles to be played.
Playing in his first match in a UB uniform, Ryan Thompson faced Luke VanDonslear and the two went at it for over three hours. VanDonslear took the first set in a tiebreaker, but then Thompson picked up the second in a tiebreaker of his own. From there, the two went into a third set where Thompson fell 6-3 as the Huskies took the match.
Also playing in his first match for the Bulls on Sunday was Vasisht Cheruku, who played third doubles with Snaiders.
The Bulls will now hit the road for their next five matches beginning on Friday at Toledo.
