Bulls Sweep Friday Doubleheader Against Ohio To Open MAC Play

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team completed a pair of walk-off wins to sweep a doubleheader against the Ohio Bobcats on Friday to open Mid-American Conference play. The Bulls took game one 4-3 before defeating Ohio 3-2 in game two of the day.
It was a pitcher's duel in the early going of game one before the Bobcats broke though with a solo home run in the top of the fourth. The Bulls tied the game in the bottom of the inning as Alexis Matheney tripled to left field and Olivia Kincanon put Buffalo ahead in the fifth as she blasted a solo home run to right center to give UB a 2-1 lead.
Ohio retook the lead in the top of the sixth as the Bobcats scored two runs on three hits to go up 3-2.
Needing a rally in the bottom of the seventh, Sara Kelly started things off with a single down the right field line and Anna Aguon followed with a two-run home run to right center field to give the Bulls the walk-off victory.
Junior Alexis Lucyshyn got the win in the circle as she allowed just two runs while striking out four batters in a complete game effort.
The Bulls struck first in game two as Lucyshyn singled up the middle to score Aguon and give UB an early 1-0 lead.
Ohio got on the board in the top of the third as they scored two runs on three hits to take a 2-1 lead.
Buffalo chipped away in the bottom of the sixth as Madison Fernimen tripled down the right field line and later scored on a wild pitch to tie the game at two. Aguon came up with some late game magic once again as she doubled to left center and then advanced to third on a wild pitch before escaping a run-down situation and beating the tag at home to score the game-winning run.
Sophomore Julia Tarantino got the win as she allowed just two runs while striking out a career-high seven batters in a complete game effort. Aguon led the Bulls at the plate as she went 4-for-8 on the day with two RBI and two runs scored.
Buffalo will conclude their series against Ohio with a single game on Saturday. First pitch is scheduled for 2pm.
