
Track and Field Ready for MAC Indoor Championships

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track and field teams are ready to take on the Mid-American Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships this weekend. The squad will travel to Kent, Ohio for the second time this season. Kent State University will host the championships in the Kent State Field House as they are set to start on Friday, Feb. 25 at 10:45 a.m. The championships will run through Saturday, Feb. 26 as day two will start at 11:30 a.m.
CHAMPIONSHIP PREVIEW
Brandon Burke will attempt to win the men's high jump like how he did so a season ago. Burke, the school record holder, went on to be named MAC Men's Field Athlete of the Year at the 2021 MAC Outdoor Championships. As he went on to the NCAA Indoor Championships, he finished seventh overall to earn All-American Honors.
Senior thrower Molly McCreedy has had a very consistent and dominant season in the shot put. She is seventh in UB history with a toss of 15.41-meters. She has placed top-3 at every meet this season and will look to do the same this weekend. Asia Hoyte looks to earn a medal this year in the weight throw. Hoyte ranks sixth in the event in program history.
The men's distance team has been fantastic all season and tearing up the record books. In the mile and 3,000 and 5,000-meter runs, the Bulls have set five new top-10 times. Thomas Flannery set the new school record in the 3,000-meter run in 8:11.38 and is second in the mile run with a time of 4:07.88. Cal Puskar, Alex Hislop, and Scott Loforte are also in the top-10 in program history. The women's distance team has had a stellar season, as well. Riley Jones ranks eighth in program history in the 5,000-meter run and 10th in the 3,000-meter run. Anya Schmitt has run side-by-side with Jones in several races this season. Schmitt ranks seventh in the 5,000-meter run.
