BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's basketball team looks to end a three-game skid as they travel to Big 4 foe Niagara for a clash with the Purple Eagles on Wednesday night at 6pm.
The game will be streamed on ESPN+ with Jack Angelucci (play-by-play) and Sue Roarke (color) announcing and can be heard on the radio on ESPN 1520AM or on the Varsity Network with Jack Kreuzer on the call.
This is the 45th overall meeting between Buffalo and Niagara with the Bulls owning the 25-19 series advantage. UB defeated the Purple Eagles 95-55 at Alumni Arena last season.
UB fought hard but couldn't overcome multiple scoring droughts as they fell 71-56 at Rhode Island on Thursday night. Fifth year guard Jazmine Young led the Bulls with 14 points while Re'Shawna Stone also scored in double figures with 13 points and Zakiyah Winfield added nine points. Winfield leads the team in scoring and rebounding at 12.6 points and 9.0 rebounds per game. Young is also averaging in double figures at 10.8 points per game. The Bulls rank in the top six in the MAC in scoring defense (61.4), 3FG defense (30.2), blocks per game (2.8) and assist-to-turnover ratio (0.8).
The Niagara Purple Eagles are 1-6 overall after falling 61-57 at St. Bonaventure on Friday night. Niagara finished the 2021-22 season with a 15-15 overall record and 11-9 conference mark, earning its first trip the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Tournament semifinals since 2013. Niagara was selected to finish third in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year and Preseason All-MAAC Second Team Selection Aaliyah Parker leads the Purple Eagles in scoring at 17.3 ppg while also leading the team in rebounding (7.6), steals (4.0) and assists (2.0) per game. Her sister, All-MAAC First Team selection, Angel Parker is also scoring in double figures at 14.4 points per contest. After leading the country last year in steals a season ago, the Niagara defense is at it again as they are averaging 13.3 steals per game, which leads the MAAC and ranks 10th in the nation, while also forcing 26.6 turnovers per contest, good for tops in the MAAC and fifth nationally.
Up next, Buffalo will return to Alumni Arena to host the LIU Sharks on Saturday, December 10 at 2pm.
As a reminder, the Buffalo women's basketball team is running a crowdfunding campaign through December 20 to raise money for various portable equipment that will help the players recover more quickly and efficiency between practices and competition. To donate, click here.
