Bulls Face Mountaineers on Sunday Evening

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (5-5, 0-0 MAC) will play the West Virginia Mountaineers (8-2, 0-0 Big 12) on Sunday evening at the WVU Coliseum. The game will tip-off at 5 p.m. on ESPN+.
The Bulls are coming off a tough loss to Tulane last Sunday at State Farm Arena in Atlanta. LaQuill Hardnett recorded his second double-double of the season, scoring 13 points and grabbing 10 rebounds. Freshman Isaac Jack finished with a career-high 10 rebounds in the contest.
This will be the fifth meeting between the Buffalo Bulls and West Virginia Mountaineers. The series is tied 2-2 with Buffalo winning the last matchup on Nov. 9, 2018, over the nationally ranked Mountaineers, 99-94 in OT. West Virginia came into the matchup at No. 13 in the AP Poll. In the 2015 NCAA Tournament, 12th seed Buffalo faced 5th seed West Virginia in the First Round in Columbus, Ohio. West Virginia went on to win, 68-62. The first ever meeting between the programs came on Feb. 21, 1918, when Buffalo hosted West Virginia. The Bulls went on to win, 41-23.
Defensively, Buffalo has forced an average of 16.30 turnovers per game. This is good for 50th in the nation and second in the MAC. Two Bulls are top-five in the MAC in steals per game. Zid Powell is currently third averaging 1.90 steals per game, as Curtis Jones is fifth with 1.80. As a team, the Bulls are 31st in the country in steals per game, averaging 9.4.
In transition, the Bulls are 11th in the nation in fastbreak points, averaging 17.70 per game. Buffalo had 45 fastbreak points against St. John Fisher on Dec. 6.
After Sunday, the Bulls will host SUNY Canton on Tuesday, Dec. 21 at 6 p.m.
