Bulls Battle Canisius for a Sunday Matinee

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo men's basketball team (2-4, 0-0 MAC) will play the Canisius Golden Griffins (2-3, 0-0 MAAC) on Sunday afternoon. The game can be watched on ESPN+ with tip-off starting at 2:30 p.m. following the women's game against Drexel at noon.
The Bulls are coming off a win against George Mason to close out their competition at the Paradise Jam in St. Thomas, U.S. Virgin Islands. In the win, sophomore guard Curtis Jones finished with 22 points, tying a career-high, with Isaiah Adams scoring a career-high 24 points against the Patriots. The Bulls have had at least one 20-point scorer in the last three games. LaQuill Hardnett scored 26 against Drake in the first game of the tournament as Jones scored 22 points against Howard.
Zid Powell is second in the MAC with 2.33 steals per game, behind Malique Jacobs of Kent State who averages 4.20. As a team, the Bulls are 44th in the nation in fastbreak points, averaging 15.43 per game. This mark is the best in the MAC.
Buffalo is 72-109 all-time against the Metro-Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). In last year's contest, the Bulls fell to the Golden Griffins at the KeyBank Center, 65-64. Head Coach Jim Whitesell is 2-1 against Canisius in his time at Buffalo. The series dates back to 1912 where Canisius leads the all-time series, 29-21.
After Sunday, the Bulls will host another Big 4 rival, St. Bonaventure, on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 2:30 p.m.
