Franz Earns MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

CLEVELAND, OH – University at Buffalo junior diver Victoria Franz was named the MAC Women's Scholar Athlete of the Week, the Mid-American Conference announced on Wednesday afternoon.
A bioinformatics and computational biology major with a 3.461 GPA, Franz had a dominant weekend at the UB Diving Invite as she won both the 1 and 3-meter dives with 22 competitors. Friday afternoon she cruised to a first-place finish in the 1-meter dive with a prelim score of 305.55. She then improved her score to 314.10 in the finals winning the event by nearly 45 points. On Saturday afternoon she scored 325.40 points in the 3-meter prelims and went on to score 340.55 in the finals, winning by over 60 points.
This is Franz's first Scholar Athlete of the Week honor as she has been MAC Diver of the Week seven times.
The Scholar Athlete of the Week Award is presented to a MAC male and/or female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during that week's competition. An institution can nominate up to one male and one female student-athlete per week in any of that current season's sports. The winners are selected by a representative of the MAC's Faculty Athletics Representatives (FARs).
