The Bulls got off to a good start by earning the doubles point. Second-doubles Daniils Snaiders and Simon Wibler and third-doubles Greg Hastings and Finn Macnamara both won their matches, 6-3, to secure the point.
Wibler continued to play well during top singles, winning in three sets over Alex De Soussa. Wibler won the first set, 6-2, but stumbled in the second, 7-6. He was dominant in the third, finishing off De Soussa, 6-1.
Mcnamara got off to a good start at three singles, winning the opening set 6-4. However, he dropped two closely contested sets, 7-5 and 7-6, to drop the match.
Snaiders also dropped a tough contest to Matvey Radionov at four singles. Snaiders lost the opening set, 7-6, but rebounded to take the second, 6-3. The third set also went to a tiebreaker with Radionov pulling out the 7-6 victory.
Yu-Shiang Huang also lost a three-set match to Gustov Wogen at five singles, 2-6, 6-4, 2-6.
"Today was another learning experience for our young squad," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We played better doubles and had momentum going into singles, but didn't show the toughness needed to close out sets and matches when needed. Drexel played great tennis in tight moments and they deserved to win the match. We are grateful for the experience we received this weekend and we are looking forward to working hard to be prepared for Yale."
The Bulls return to action at Yale on January 28.
