
Bulls Drop Spring Opener To Penn

PHILADELPHIA, PA – The University at Buffalo men's tennis team opened up spring action on Friday afternoon, dropping the opener to the University of Pennsylvania, 7-0.
Buffalo brought in a young group, that included three UB players who were making their dual match debuts.
After Penn took the doubles point, the Bulls settled down a bit in singles, sending two of the six matches into three sets. Cheng Tang overcame a first set loss at second singles, winning his second set 6-2 before falling in the third.
At sixth singles, Greg Hastings lost his first set, but won the second 6-3. Hastings dropped the third set in a super tiebreaker, 11-9.
"We expected Penn to bring it today, and they certainly did," said head coach Lee Nickell. "We didn't start with enough energy in doubles and got into a quick hole. We fought hard in singles and had a few chances to get back in the match, but Penn was too good. This was a good experience for our young team, and we plan on taking what we learned today into our match against a good Drexel team tomorrow."
The Bulls remain on the road tomorrow when they face Drexel at 11:00 am
