
Bulls Host Ball State in Season Finale

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo softball team concludes the 2021 season with a four-game series against Ball State at Nan Harvey Field this weekend.
The weekend will begin with a 3pm game on Friday followed by a Senior Day ceremony postgame. Weekend play will continue with a doubleheader at 1pm/3pm on Saturday and will conclude with a single game at 12pm on Sunday.
The Bulls are coming off a series split at Ohio last weekend. Freshman Rachel Steffan blasted a pair of home runs to lead the Bulls to a 7-5 victory in the series opener on Friday. After dropping the next two games, UB took the rubber game on Sunday as Alexis Matheney drilled a pair of two-run home runs and Olivia Kincanon delivered the dagger in the top of the seventh to secure the 12-8 victory. The Bulls hit eight home runs on the weekend, bringing their total to a single-season record 60 home runs off the bats of nine different players.
Buffalo is being led at the plate by senior Anna Aguon who owns a .392 batting average to go with a team-best 56 hits, nine doubles, 14 home runs, 35 RBI and 38 runs scored, while also recording a .762 slugging percentage and .498 on base percentage. Steffan is batting .315 with 39 hits, five doubles, seven home runs, 27 RBI and 28 runs scored while recording a .479 on base percentage and Matheney is batting is batting .299 with 41 hits, six doubles, nine home runs, 30 RBI and 31 runs scored. Graduate student Ally Marcano leads UB in the circle with a 9-111 overall record, 6.08 ERA and 77 strikeouts in 111.0 innings of work. Sophomore Alexis Lucyshyn owns a 6-9 overall record and has a 7.55 ERA with 46 strikeouts in 84.2 innings pitched.
Ball State enters the weekend with a 33-18 overall record and a 27-8 league mark after sweeping a midweek doubleheader at Northern Illinois on Wednesday. The Cardinals are led offensively by Faith Hensley who is batting .406 with 58 hits, 16 doubles, seven home runs, 48 RBI and 37 runs scored while recording a .692 slugging and .497 on base percentage. Kayla Lissy is batting .372 with 51 hits, four doubles, nine triples, 14 RBI and 40 runs scored. Deborah Jones leads Ball State in the circle, compiling a 10-7 overall record with a 3.88 ERA and 68 strikeouts in 101.0 innings of work. Tieghan Morio is 12-4 on the year with a 4.16 ERA and 53 strikeouts in 101.0 innings pitched.
