MOUNT PLEASANT, MI – The University at Buffalo softball team bounced back with a 6-3 win over Central Michigan at Margo Jonker Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
After a slow start to the game for both teams the Bulls broke through in the top of the third as Anna Aguon smacked a two out single up the middle and Alicia Peters followed with a two-run home run to give the Bulls a 2-0 lead.
The Bulls would add to their lead in the top of the fourth as Alexis Matheney led off with a solo home to straightaway center field run to put UB up 3-0.
Buffalo loaded the bases on a trio of walks and Aguon made the Chippewas pay with a two out two-RBI single to left and Peters would follow with an RBI single of her own to give the Bulls ab 6-0 lead.
The Bulls flashed some leather in the bottom of the fifth as Brianna Castro, Madison Fernimen and Carina Catalano turned the 6-4-3 double play to keep CMU off the board.
Central Michigan would get on the board in the bottom of the sixth, scoring two runs on two hits to cut the UB lead to 6-2, and would add another in the bottom of the seventh but it would not be enough as the Bulls held on for the victory.
The two home runs hit on Saturday gives UB 36 home runs on the season, which ties the single-season home run record set by the 2016 Bulls.
Sophomore Alexis Lucyshyn picked up the win in the circle for UB giving up just three runs while striking out three batters in a complete game effort.
Buffalo concludes the series with a single game at 12pm tomorrow.
