
Track & Field to Close Out Regular Season on Friday with UB Twilight Invite

BUFFALO, N.Y. – The University at Buffalo track & field team will host their final of three home meets this season on Friday, April 23. The UB Twilight Invitational is set to begin at 3 p.m. with field events as track events starting at 4 p.m. Participating schools include Canisius College, Daemen College, Niagara University, St. Bonaventure University, Siena College and UB. Before the meet begins, at 1:30 p.m. the team will honor their 19 seniors. The ceremony will be available to stream on YouTube.
LAST TIME OUT
Last Saturday the Bulls defended their home turf as they hosted the UB Invitational. The Invitational had 14 schools from Ohio and New York that included the University of Akron, Alfred University, Buffalo State, Canisius College, SUNY Cortland, Daemen College, SUNY Fredonia, Kent State University, Niagara University, SUNY Oswego, Sage College, St. Bonaventure University, Utica College and UB. The men's team finished first out of 12 with a total of 245 points. MAC rivals Kent State and Akron would finish in second and third with 196 and 66 points, respectively. The women's team would also come in first place out of 14 with 235 points. Kent State finished in second and claimed 104 less points than UB.
UB TWILIGHT PREVIEW
This will be UB's last regular season meet of the season as they team will then prepare for the 2021 Mid-American Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships. This year's championships will be hosted by Miami University from Friday, May 7 through Saturday, May 8.
Before the MAC Championships, the Bulls will look to get into prime condition and improve their top results.
Priscilla Faa has been dominant in her sprint events. The junior sprinter won both the 100 and 200-meter dashes last weekend including being the anchor in the winning women's 4x100-meter relay team.
Junior multi-event specialist Christina Wende will look to help the Bulls on the track in the field. Wende finished second in the 100-meter hurdles last week (15.22-seconds) and led the way in UB's B-team 4x100-meter relay (second place, 48.40-seconds) on the track. She then would win the long jump (11.88-meters) and place second in the triple jump (5.62-meters).
The men's distance team will have their work cut out for them as they will run the 10,000-meter run for just the second time this season. The last time they ran this event was at the Colonial Relays at William & Mary. William Hilbert (29:35.71) set the new school record as Armani Merlino (29:44.30, second all-time), Scott Loforte (29:51.99, fourth all-time), Benjamin Cardamone (30:05.10, fifth all-time).
Brandon Burke and Nakia Williams, Jr. have had spectacular seasons in the high jump. Burke looks to get back at the NCAA Championships as Williams, Jr. is not far behind Burke.
