OXFORD, OH – The University at Buffalo softball team dropped a pair of games at Miami (OH) on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls fell 10-1 in game one before dropping game two 8-0.
In game one the RedHawks would score three runs on three hits in the bottom of the first to take an early 3-0 lead and they would add another run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single to go up 4-0.
Senior Alicia Peters would put the Bulls on the board in the top of the third with a solo home run to left to cut the lead to 4-1.
Miami would break the game open in the bottom of the fourth with a two-run home run to take a 6-1 lead and force a UB pitching change as Julia Tarantino came on in relief for Ally Marcano. The RedHawks would continue to pile on the runs as they scored four more runs to go up 10-1 and that would seal the victory as the Bulls were unable to rally in the top of the fifth to extend the game.
In game two, it would be Miami who would get on the board first as they scored two runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning and added another pair of runs on a solo home run and an RBI double in the third to take a 4-0 lead.
The Bulls threatened in the fourth inning as Peters and Rachel Steffan led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Alexis Matheney drew a walk to load the bases but UB would strand the runners to end the half inning and that would prove to be costly as the RedHawks scored a run in the bottom of the inning and added three more in the fifth on three hits and a UB error to secure the 8-0 victory.
Buffalo will conclude the series with the RedHawks at 12pm on Sunday.
