
Volleyball Falls To Ohio, 3-1

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped its match on Friday night, falling to Ohio, 3-1.
The Bobcats took the contest 25-15, 27-25, 20-25, 25-14 as Ohio outhit the Bulls .269 to .189. After OU took the opening set, the second was a tight affair that saw both teams trade the lead back and forth. UB trailed 24-22 late, but the Bulls scored the next three points, including kills from Milla Malik and Emma Gielas, as UB took a set point of their own. The Bobcats fought it off and scored the last three points for the set.
The Bulls stayed alive in the third set as UB scored the final five points after it was all tied up at 20-20. Gielas had three kills over the final five points. Despite the third set win for the Bulls, Ohio came back to take the fourth and the match.
Gielas led the Bulls with 17 kills, one of two UB players in double figures for the match. Malik added 11 kills. Freshman Maria Futey chipped in eight kills, while middle blockers Olivia DeBortoli and Courtney Okwara each added six kills.
Freshman setter Mandy Leigh had two kills to go along with her 40 assists, two aces and 11 digs.
Defensively, three Buffalo players finished with 11 digs including Malik, Leigh, and freshman Hannah Jacoby. Kyndal Bacon and Futey each added nine.
The Bulls finished with 9.0 blocks, led by five from Okwara.
Buffalo and Ohio continue their two-match series tomorrow at Alumni Arena beginning at 4pm.
