YOUNGSTOWN, OH – The University at Buffalo women's tennis team improved to 5-1 on the season with a 5-2 win at Youngstown St. on Saturday afternoon.
UB opened strong in doubles as the Bulls swept the three matches. The third doubles team of Ambre Amat and Gabriella Akopyan came away with the first win, 6-3, while Buffalo clinched it at one as Pia Schwarz and Nikoleta Antoniou-Karademitrou won 6-2. At second doubles, Emel Abibula and Azra Deniz Comlek won 6-4.
The Bulls took four of the six matches in singles. Comlek was the first to win at five as she scored a 6-2, 6-4 win. After YSU got on the board at six, Schwarz won at first singles, 6-1, 6-4. Abibula then clinched the match at two with a 6-4, 6-3 win.
The Penguins had another win at fourth singles, but Akopyan closed out the day with a three-set win at third singles. She overcame a first-set loss, winning 7-6 (4) in the second set and then 10-5 in the super tiebreaker.
Buffalo returns home on Friday when it hosts Cleveland State at 1pm at the Miller Tennis Center.
