
Polina Prokudina Named Preseason All-MAC East

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior outside hitter Polina Prokudina was one of six individuals named to the preseason All-MAC East team, the Mid-American Conference announced on Tuesday morning as part of their preseason poll. As a team, the Bulls were picked to finish in fourth place in the MAC East.
Last season, Prokudina finished second on the team with 289 kills as she hit .221 on the year. She added 91 digs and 53.0 total blocks as she was named second-team All-MAC following the year. During the course of her junior season, Prokudina reached double figures in kills 12 times, including 19 against Northwestern. In just two seasons with UB, Prokudina has 676 career kills.
Prokudina is the only East Division member not from Miami or Ohio on the preseason All-MAC Team as she is joined by Gaby Harper and Margaret Payne from the RedHawks and Vera Giacomazzi, Tia Jimerson, and Lizzie Stephens from the Bobcats.
Overall, Miami was picked to win the MAC East with 68 points and nine first place votes. Bowling Green was picked to finish second and Ohio third. The Bulls slotted in at fourth, receiving 33 points and one vote to win the MAC Tournament Championship. Kent State and Akron were picked fifth and sixth, respectively.
Ball State was picked to win the MAC West followed Western Michigan and Eastern Michigan. Central Michigan was picked fourth, while Northern Illinois was selected fifth and Toledo sixth.
The Bulls open up the 2019 regular season this weekend when they host the UB Invite. The first match is Friday night when Buffalo hosts Alabama at 6pm.
