
Bulls Set To Host MAC West Opponents This Weekend

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo volleyball team will remain home this weekend as the Bulls host a pair of teams from the MAC West as the Bulls face Western Michigan on Friday evening and Northern Illinois on Saturday night. Both contests will begin at 6pm.
The Bulls are looking to snap a four-match losing streak as they are coming off a tough 3-2 loss to Ohio last Saturday. Buffalo is 5-13 overall and 1-5 in the MAC as this weekend will mark the midway point in league play. Senior Rachel Sanks continues to lead Buffalo offensively with 189 kills, followed by 176 from Polina Prokudina. Coming off a season-high 62 assists, senior Scout McLerran has a team-best 527 assists.
Defensively, sophomore libero Paige Beck leads Buffalo with 273 digs. Junior Lexi Nordmann paces the UB blocking attack, averaging 1.03 blocks per set.
WMU enters Friday's match with an 11-7 record and a 2-4 mark in league play, having lost its last three contests. The Broncos started the season 8-0, but have dropped seven of their last 10. Rachel Bontrager leads Western Michigan with 262 kills, while Maggie King has added 192 kills. Rose Duffy and Mary Marzo have split setting duties as Marzo has 352 assists, while Duffy has 338.
Libero Kathleen Riley leads WMU with 367 digs, while six Bronco players have at least 100 digs on the year.
On Saturday, the Bulls will face Northern Illinois, who enters its match with Akron on Friday with a 6-14 mark and a 3-3 record in league play. Kennedy Wallace leads a balanced offensive attack with 203 kills, one of four players with 125 kills or more. Grace Balensiefer has a team-high 702 assists.
Defensively, Miranda Karlen leads the team with 309 digs, while Kennedy Shelley adds 154.
Both matches this weekend are free to the public and will stream for free on YouTube for those unable to attend.
