BUFFALO, NY – Second-year head coach Nate Oats has announced the addition of two local standouts for the upcoming 2016-17 season in junior college transfer Dontay Caruthers and Williamsville South product Graham Dolan.
Caruthers is a 6-2 point guard from Rochester, NY who played his freshman season for current UB assistant coach Bryan Hodgson at Midland College before transferring to Indian Hills Junior College where he has sat out last season due to injury. Caruthers will have three years of eligibility left at UB.
In his freshman season at Midland, Caruthers played in 30 games, starting 26. He averaged 10.1 points per game, averaging 5.0 assists per contest and shooting nearly 48% from the field. He scored a career high 27 points against Clarendon, one of three 20-point performances on the season.
At East High School in Rochester, Caruthers was named the Greater Rochester Player of the Year and Class A first-team All-State after averaging 28.2 points per game, 6.0 rebounds per contest and 5.0 assists a game during his senior season. During his senior year at East, Caruthers opened the year with back-to-back 50-point games, including 53 points against Edison.
"Dontay is a strong, physical, scoring combo guard that we are counting on to make significant contributions to a winning program for the next three years," said Oats. "His familiarity with Coach Hodgson is invaluable and we can't wait until he steps on campus."
Dolan averaged 14.5 points, 6.5 rebounds and 2.3 assists per game at Williamsville South during his senior year as he was named third-team All-Western New York by The Buffalo News. Dolan helped lead Williamsville South to an unbeaten record in ECIC II, claiming its second straight league championship.
The Billies also won the Section VI Class A title and advanced to Glens Falls and the State Championship Final Four for the first time ever. He was voted first-team ECIC II and second-team All-ECIC.
"We are really excited that we were able to get a player of Graham's caliber to walk on here," said Oats. "He is one of the best shooters that I have seen and that is something that I value greatly. He is a high-character kid that comes from a great family and we are eager to get him into our program."
Caruthers and Dolan join James Jones, Brock Bertram and Quate McKinzie who signed with the Bulls back in November.
