KENT, OH - The University at Buffalo softball team was shut down in a pair of games on Saturday at Kent State, falling in the opener 8-0 and in the second game, 4-1. The loss drops UB to 8-9 in conference play.
The Golden Flashes rode a five-run third inning in the opener on Saturday for the run rule victory. Kent State began with two runs in the bottom of the first, while adding the five in the third and one in the fourth.
UB managed just two hits in the first game, including a one-out single by Ashton Earnhardt in the second and a one-out single from Savanna Norcio in the third. Sophomore Charlotte Miller picked up the loss for the Bulls.
In the second game, the Golden Flashes scored solo runs in the first and the third to take a 2-0 lead before UB got on the board for the first time in the top of the sixth on a one-out solo home run from freshman Catrell Robertson, her fifth home run of the season. The long ball pulled the Bulls back within one, but Kent State scored two in the bottom of the inning to take the 4-1 lead.
Freshman Lace Smith picked up the loss as she allowed four runs, three of those were earned. Buffalo had four hits in the second game, three of those were singles in addition to the Robertson home run.
The Bulls will return home on Wednesday when they host Binghamton in a mid-week doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 pm.
