BUFFALO, NY – UB men's swimming and diving team begins competition at the 2016 MAC Championships on Wednesday, March 2. The four-day event is being hosted by Eastern Michigan University who also hosted the 2015 MAC Championships.
Last year, the Bulls finished third for the third-straight season with 517 points. This season Buffalo looks to find success at MAC's after a stellar 6-2 dual record. Their only loses on the season came against nationally ranked Ohio State and Michigan on January 30.
The Bulls return two All-MAC Second Team swimmers, Antonio Lanzi and Scott Huang, for this year's conference championship. In addition Itai De La Vega and Garrett Clarke have been key contributors to this year's team. All four swimmers also hit NCAA "B" cuts last season and look to accomplish similar performances at this year's MAC's.
Dan Roche, Derek Linebaugh, Kristian Santos and Troy Birdsall look to add quality team points this year after qualifying for the NCAA Zone A qualifiers last season. Additionally, Nick Rodriguez broke the school record in the one-meter dive earlier this season and looks to add depth to the diving events for Buffalo.
Senior Billy Patrum is versatile swimming in freestyle, fly, and individual medley events and is especially strong in the distance freestyle events. He currently holds the best 500 freestyle time this season on the team.
The Mid-American Conference Championships begin Wednesday night with the 200 Medley Relay and the 800 freestyle relay. A full schedule of events is listed below with all times in Eastern Standard Time.
