Burns, Powers Win Individual Events, Bulls Finish Fourth at MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, OH - UB women's swimming and diving competed for the fourth-straight day at the MAC Championships. On Saturday, the Bulls performed well in the preliminary heats that 12 swimmers qualified for the Saturday night finals session in addition to those in the three-meter final and 400 meter relay events.
For a fourth-straight night, both Jessica Powers and Megan Burns competed. Both came away with a gold medal at the 1650 freestyle and 100 freestyle, respectively. Powers won her third-straight 1650 freestyle event at the MAC Championships with a season-best time of 16:24.91. Burns came away with her sixth-career MAC gold medal by defending her 100 freestyle title in a time of 48.67.
Hannah Miller finished closely behind Powers to finish second in the 1650. Miller swam the event in 16:38.01, which is a new personal best. Victoria Butler earned team points by finishing the race in 17:10.87 for 14th.
In the 100 freestyle Sarah Baxter finished sixth in the finals session. She completed the four-lap race in a time of 50.20, while Eve Kosten swam 51.51 to finish 15th overall.
Mackenzie Moss placed fourth in the three-meter dive with a score of 268.00. Abbey Croce capped off her season in the consolation finals where to she earned 296.85, which is a season best.
The final race of the MAC Championships saw the Bulls finish in second in the 400 freestyle relay. In a close race Baxter opened the relay with a personal-best and NCAA B Cut time of 49.90. The quartet finished the relay in a time of 3:20.71 and in second place as Burns completed the anchor leg in 48.09.
Julia Box finished the 200 fly finals session in a time of 2:01.26 and placed fourth overall. Saoirse Palu-Benson won the consolation finals heat in 2:01.84, while Brittney Walters swam the race in 2:02.73 to place 11th overall.
Cristina Czyrka placed eighth in the 200 breastroke, while Holly Olsen swam a personal-best time of 2:19.42 to finish 12th.
Buffalo had four individuals named to All-MAC honors. Jessica Powers and Megan Burns earned All-MAC First Team honors, while Sarah Baxter and Hannah Miller were selected to the All-MAC Second Team.
