UB Sits Fourth Overall after Day 3 of MAC Championships

BOWLING GREEN, OHIO - The Bulls returned to the pool and diving well for the third day of MAC Championships. Buffalo was in second place heading into the day, but fell to fourth place as Day 3 came to an end. Despite dropping two spots in the standings, the team continued to hit personal-best and season-best marks on the third day of the four-day event.
Overall, 10 swimmers moved into Friday night's finals sessions, while Abbey Croce qualified for the three-meter dive consolation finals and Mackenzie Moss finished in the top-8. Moss will compete in the three-meter dive finals on Saturday. Croce won the consolation finals and finished ninth overall.
Julia Box had a busy day of swimming as she competed in the 100 backstroke consolation finals, the 100 fly consolation finals, and the 200 medley relay. She swam 56.24 in the 100 fly to finish 14th overall, while her time of 54.85 in the 100 back was good enough for 10th. Box will have a quick turn around as she will be participating in the 200 fly preliminaries, which will occur during Saturday's morning session scheduled to begin at 11:00 am.
The Bulls had three individuals reach the 200 free finals. Megan Burns and Jessica Powers placed third and sixth, while Sarah Baxter added to the team score by winning the consolationa finals with a time of 1:50.21. Burns swam a season-best time of 1:48.01 in the preliminaries before swimming the finals in 1:48.98. Powers also swam her best time of the season in the 200 free (1:49.46) before swimming 1:49.63 in the finals. For both swimmers, it's the third-straight day that they swam at MAC's.
Buffalo had four swimmers in the 400 IM finals. This was an improvement after not having a swimmer advance to the 200 IM finals on Thursday night. Brittney Walters placed seventh with a time of 4:25.89 in the finals. Hannah Miller, Victoria Butler, and Claudia Casale placed 10th, 13th, and 16th overall, respectively with times of 4:24.61, 4:27.09, and 4:29.18. The trio's consolation finals times were all improvements over their preliminary times. Miller's time in the consolation finals was almost six seconds faster than her preliminary performance.
Cristina Czyrka and Holly Olsen both qualified for the consolation finals in the 100 yard breaststroke. Czyrka finished 13th with a personal-best time of 1:04.43, while Olsen swam 1:05.11 to finish 15th overall.
UB women's swimming and diving team is back in action at Cooper Pool on Saturday. The final preliminary session begins at 11:00 am with the 200 back, 100 free, 200 breast, 200 fly preliminaries. The final session of the 2016 MAC Championship will begin with the 1650 free at 5:20pm EST. The rest of the evening session can be found here. Saturday's events starting with the 1650 free will be streamed on ESPN3.
