
Bulls Fall To Hot-Shooting Broncos, 91-71

KALAMAZOO, MI – The host Western Michigan Broncos went 13-of-21 from three-point range on Saturday afternoon, leading the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men's basketball team wire-to-wire in a 91-71 win at University Arena. The loss for the Bulls snaps a two-game winning streak as they are now 10-9 on the year and 3-3 in MAC play.
The Bulls ran into a hot-shooting Broncos team in the first half as Western Michigan opened the first half on a 15-2 run. The Broncos went 9-of-15 from three-point range in the opening half and 16-of-29 from the floor as they took a 48-30 lead into the break. The Bulls pulled within 11 in the opening half on a couple of occasions, but on the last one, WMU went on a 13-4 run to go up 43-23, its largest lead of the opening half.
UB pulled within 13 early on in the second half, but Western Michigan was able to extend its lead to 25 with 9:32 remaining after a jumper from Tucker Haymond, who finished with a game-high 27 points. A three-point play by junior Willie Conner pulled the Bulls within 15 at 74-59 with 4:45 left, but they would get no closer as the Broncos extended the lead to as many as 23.
Conner led the Bulls with 17 points, one of four players to score in double figures for UB. Blake Hamilton added 11 points and eight rebounds, while freshman Nick Perkins finished with 13 points off the bench before fouling out. Senior Jarryn Skeete added 10 points, four rebounds and four assists.
Freshman CJ Massinburg had seven points, while sophomore Lamonte Bearden scored six points in 22 minutes after missing the last two games due to injury.
While Western Michigan shot nearly 62% from three in the game, the Bulls struggled from behind the arc, shooting just over 22%.
The Bulls will return home on Tuesday evening when they host Ball State at Alumni Arena. Tipoff is set for 7:00 pm.
