
Women's Soccer To Host Syracuse In Home Opener On Sunday

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York women's soccer team heads home on Sunday afternoon for their first home match of the 2015 season against Syracuse at noon. The Bulls started the season with four straight road matches that ended with them earning a 2-2 mark.
The Bulls are coming off of a tough road contest against Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure that ended with UB falling 2-0. The Bulls controlled a lot of the match as they earned the 17-12 advantage in shots and the 9-4 edge in corner kicks but they were unable to find the back of the net.
ABOUT THE BULLS
The Bulls enter Sunday's non-conference meeting with a 2-2-0 overall record after losing last time out to St. Bonaventure. The Bulls were riding a two-game shutout streak prior to the Bonnies loss as they downed Drexel 1-0 and Canisius 2-0, giving UB goalkeeper Laura Dougall sole possession of third place on the all-time shutouts list with 15 cleansheets. Sophomore Julia Benati had been a bright spot early on for the Bulls as she leads the team with one goal and one assist to go along with four shots and one game-winning goal. Senior Kassidy Kidd and redshirt fresman Carissima Cutrona have been all over the field for the Bulls but have not been able to find the back of the net as of yet as they have recorded 13 and 12 shots, respectively. The stout backline of the Bulls have seen some good and bad moments so far this season as they are anchored by reigning third team All-American Jackie Hall, Andrea Niper, Angel Hart and Brianna Shingary.
ABOUT SYRACUSE
The Syracuse Orange come to Buffalo sporting a 2-3-0 record after falling on the road to #25 UConn last time out, 1-0. Leading the Orange's attack is Alexis Koval who has notched two goals and three assists for a team-high seven points. Stephanie Skilton has started all five matches this season while being tied for the team lead with two goals. Courtney Brosnan has started all five matches between the pipes while making 19 saves and holding a goals-against average of 0.80 and a save percentage of .826 with one cleansheet.
ALL-TIME SERIES
This will be the seventh matchup all-time between the two squads with the Syracuse Orange holding the dominant 5-0-1 record against UB. The Orange have also outscored the Bulls 17-6 through six matches. The last meeting between the two sides was in 2004 when the Orange downed the Bulls 1-0 in double overtime in Buffalo.
