BUFFALO, NY – First-year head volleyball coach Blair Brown Lipsitz has announced her coaching staff for the upcoming season, bringing in an experienced staff coming from different Division I institutions.
Scott Smith joins the staff from Georgia Southern where he spent three seasons as an assistant coach and five seasons overall on the Eagles' staff. At Georgia Southern, his primary responsibilities were recruiting, assisting with daily practices, scouting and video editing.
The Eagles have won over 100 matches during Smith's five years on the coaching staff, making two of the school's four NCAA Tournament appearances and winning two regular-season Southern Conference titles.
Smith served as a graduate assistant coach at Georgia Southern in 2010 and 2011 while earning his master's degree in kinesiology - exercise science.
A 2007 graduate of Appalachian State with a bachelor's degree in recreation management, Smith worked with the volleyball team as a student assistant in 2006 and 2007. In his first season, Smith worked with former Eagle Head Coach Chad Callihan, assisting with daily practices. While at ASU, he was the men's club volleyball captain and president all four years and earned all-conference accolades at outside hitter three times.
"We are very excited to have Scott as part of the team," said Lipsitz. "He brings with him a wealth of recruiting knowledge that will take us to the next level. He also understands the work it takes in the gym to build a program."
Adam McLamb comes to the Bulls from UT-Chattanooga where he was an assistant coach during the 2014 season. McLamb worked mainly with Chattanooga's pin hitters and instructed the passing game while aiding in speeding up the team's tempo.
Before moving to the collegiate level, McLamb coached juniors for the Coastal Virginia Volleyball Club of Virginia Beach, Va.
As a student-athlete, Adam played club volleyball at both New Hampshire and his alma mater - Radford. As a setter, his UNH team claimed the NCVF Division 1-AA National Championship. McLamb was named a First Team All-Tournament performer.
"Adam is going to have an immediate impact in the gym," said Lipsitz. "He is organized and committed to mentoring our student-athletes on and off the court."
Angie McGinnis-Hasseman joins the staff as a volunteer assistant coach. A three-time All-American and two-time SEC Player of the Year while at Florida, McGinnis-Hasseman is the wife of current UB wrestling assistant Bryce Hasseman.
McGinnis-Hasseman also spent five years with the USA National Team and was an alternate for the 2008 Olympics. She also has three years of experience with the Niagara Frontier Volleyball Club 15's where she captured a national title.
A native of Clinton Township, MI, McGinnis-Hasseman completed her bachelor's degree in elementary education from Florida.
"Angie has a storied background in the game and has played and coached at the highest level volleyball has to offer," said Lipsitz. "We couldn't be happier that she is choosing to share this competitive drive with our team."
