Bulls Swept By Cal Poly

SAN LUIS OBISPO, CA – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team ended its West Coast trip on Friday evening with a pair of losses to Cal Poly, 8-0 and 4-2.
The Bulls were shut out in the opener as they managed just two hits against Cal Poly starter Sierra Hyland. Cal Poly struck for two runs in the in the second and the third and added another in the fourth to make it 5-0. A three-run sixth though put an end to the contest.
UB's first hit didn't come until the fourth inning when senior Hayley Barrow hit a two-out double to right center. The Bulls again put runners on in the top of the sixth as Savanna Norcio walked with one out and freshman Leandra Jew hit an infield single to put two runners on, but the Bulls could not score.
Freshman Charlotte Miller picked up the loss as she pitched 2.1 innings. Barrow came on in relief and stuck out three over 3.1 innings of work.
The Bulls jumped out to the early 1-0 lead in game two as Barrow singled home Norcio, but Cal Poly scored four runs in the bottom half of the inning, its only four runs of the game.
UB cut further into the lead in the top of the fourth as junior Lauren Gambone hit a one-out solo home run to center field, pulling the Bulls within 4-2. After just two hits in the opener, UB recorded six hits in game two, led by a 3-for-3 game from Norcio and a 2-for-3 performance from Gambone.
Redshirt sophomore Bobbi Langlois picked up the loss despite shutting down Cal Poly following the opening inning.
The Bulls will return to the East Coast and head to Binghamton for a doubleheader on Wednesday beginning at 2:00 pm.
