Bulls Split A Pair On Wednesday In LA

LOS ANGELES, CA – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team split two games on Wednesday in Los Angles, defeating Harvard, 10-7, before falling to Loyola Marymount, 11-3. Both games took place at Smith Field on the campus of Loyola Marymount.

The Bulls took the opener on Wednesday as they defeated Harvard, 10-7, in a game that saw the two teams combine for 25 hits.

The Crimson scored two in the bottom of the first, but the Bulls responded by scoring four runs in the top of the second. The first run came in on an error, but then sophomore Savanna Norcio singled through the right side to score another run and senior Hayley Barrow drove in a pair with a two-out single.

Freshman Leandra Jew singled down the left field line to drive in a run in the top of the third before Harvard scored two in the bottom of the third to pull within, 5-4. UB got a big hit in the fourth inning as junior Lauren Gambone hit a three-run home run to left center field, giving the Bulls the 8-4 advantage. A single from Norcio in the fifth drove in senior Alexis Curtiss to make the score 9-4.

Curtiss hit a solo shot with one out in the seventh to make the score 10-4. Harvard would make a run in the bottom of the seventh, scoring three runs, however, UB would hold on for the 10-7 win.

Gambone and Norcio each had three-hit games for the Bulls, while Curtiss, Barrow and sophomore Ashton Earnhardt each finished with two hits.

In the second game, the Bulls remained tied with Loyola Marymount into the fifth inning, but that is when LMU scored eight runs to put an end to the game. The hosts took a 2-0 lead in the first, but UB scored two in the top of the second off a single from Jew.

LMU regained a 3-2 lead, but in the top of the third Gambone hit a two-out single, which tied the game back up at 3-3. That remained the score into the fifth when Loyola Marymount scored eight runs. The Bulls were outhit in the contest, 10-5.

The Bulls continue their Spring Break trip tomorrow at San Diego with a 2:00 pm EST start time.
