NORTHRIDGE, CA – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York, softball team split a pair of games on Friday to begin their Spring Break trip. UB defeated Bryant 2-1 in eight innings and lost to Cal State Northridge 4-1 in the second game.

The Bulls used extra innings to pick up a victory in the opener on Friday as redshirt sophomore Bobbi Langlois pitched a complete-game four-hitter for UB. The Bulls loaded the bases with two away in the bottom half of the first inning and got an infield single from junior Kenzie Koch, scoring Savanna Norcio and giving UB the lead.

Bryant tied the game up with a solo home run in the top of the fourth inning and the game remained tied as the teams headed into extra innings. With the international tie breaker rule in place, senior Alexis Curtiss was placed on second and a sacrifice bunt moved her to third. UB put two in scoring position with one away when a grounder off the bat of Koch was unable to be handled by the pitcher, scoring Curtiss with the winning run.

Langlois picked up her second win of the year as she allowed just four hits and struck out three in 8.0 innings pitched. Curtiss went 3-for-4 from the plate, while sophomore Ashton Earnhardt went 2-for-4.

UB got on the board first in the second game, scoring a run in the top of the second as senior Hayley Barrow hit a solo home run, but the Matadors tied it up in the bottom half of the inning and then scored three more in the fourth. That would be the final score.

Freshman Charlotte Miller picked up the loss in the circle. Barrow went 2-for-3 from the plate.

"We played with a lot of heart today and we did the little things right," said head coach Trena Peel. "Our defense was solid and our pitchers did a good job."

UB plays two more tomorrow beginning at 2:00 pm vs. Colorado St.
