Bulls Take Relay Title on Opening Night of MAC Championships

YPSILANTI, MI – The University at Buffalo, the State University of New York got off to a good start at the Mid-American Conference Women's Swimming and Diving Championships by winning the 800 freestyle relay on Wednesday night.
Spencer Rodriguez, Hannah Miller, Brittney Walters and Jessica Powers won the event in a school-record time of 7:14.82. The Bulls finished more than a second ahead of runner up Eastern Michigan.
It was a repeat performance for the Bulls who also won the title last season. Rodriguez, Walters and Powers were also on the relay team last year. Miller replaced former MAC Swimmer of the Year Brittney Kuras who has since graduated.
The only other event on Wednesday's opening night was the 200 medley relay. The UB team of Gloria Melofchik, Alexis Valedon, Taylor Steffl and Megan Burns finished sixth in the race with a time of 1:42.05.
After day one, the Bulls are tied for first with Akron and Eastern Michigan.
