
Bulls Have Winning Streak Snapped At Ball State

MUNCIE, IN – The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York volleyball team had its three-match winning streak broken on Saturday evening as the Bulls fell at Ball State, 3-0. The loss drops UB's conference record to 5-7 with just four regular season matches left.
The Cardinals took the contest, 25-17, 25-20, 25-19 as Ball State outhit UB, .241 to .038. UB was done in by 24 hitting errors on the evening as no player hit over .250.
The Bulls were able to lead early in the opening set as a kill from sophomore Cassie Shado gave UB a 10-9 lead. Shado was playing in front of a huge group of family and friends as the Indianapolis, IN native was playing just about an hour from home. However, Ball State would answer with s 13-2 run in the set and went on to win 25-17.
UB led 5-3 in the second set before another Ball State run gave it a 12-9 lead. The two teams were tied up at 18-18, but the Cardinals scored five straight points to take a 23-18 lead and they went on to win 25-20. Ball State went on to lead in the third set 19-12, en route to the 25-19 win.
Freshman Valisha Watkins led the Bulls with nine kills, but also had nine errors on 29 attempts. Freshman Megan Wernette added six kills and senior Akeila Lain added five. Freshman Madison Clark finished with 23 assists, two kills, and four digs.
Defensively, sophomore Tessa Ooyama finished with a match-high 18 digs, averaging 6.0 digs per set. Senior Megan Lipski added eight. The Bulls finished with 9.0 total blocks, led by four each from Shado and Wernette.
Having now concluded this four-match road trip, the Bulls return to Alumni Arena this weekend for one final time. UB will host Bowling Green on Friday at 5:00 pm before the men's basketball opener against Daemen. UB will then host Miami (OH) on Saturday night for Senior Day.
