
Four Bulls Named To Academic All-MAC Team

CLEVELAND, OH - The Mid-American Conference announced Wednesday, January 7th the 2014 Volleyball Academic All-MAC Team. A total of 68 student-athletes were named to the team from 2014. Amongst those selections were four members of the University at Buffalo, The State University of New York volleyball team. Making the team was senior Sable Staller, juniors Amber Hatchett and Megan Lipski, and sophomore Megan Lin.
Staller saw action in all 32 matches, averaging 1.27 kills per set. She recorded 10 kills against Florida International and had nine kills against Ball State. Staller capped off her senior year with eight kills and no errors in a three-set win at Albany. She reached double figures in digs four times, including 11 against Canisius and South Florida.
Hatchett played in all 32 matches for the Bulls this past season, recording a career-best 230 kills on the year, while also adding 88 total blocks. She recorded 15 kills twice this season, the first coming in a win over Siena. She also had 14 kills in a three-set match against Canisius. Hatchett also had a season-high eight blocks at South Florida.
Lipski saw action in all 32 matches, averaging 2.28 kills per set. She finished in double figures in kills 11 times, including 19 kills at South Florida. Lipski had a stretch of four straight matches in double figures, finishing with 13 kills and just one error at Akron and added 13 kills and just two errors against Ball State. She recorded 14 kills at Northern Illinois and had eight double-doubles on the year as she finished second on the team in digs. She had 19 digs against Ball State.
Lin saw action in all 32 matches, setting career highs in assists and service aces. She had a career-high 47 assists against Ball State, while finishing with 42 assists in a three-set win against Canisius, where she also added three services aces. Lin finished with a career-high five aces at Akron and added four more services aces against Ball State. Lin also had a career-high in digs, capped off with 21 at South Florida.
The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport.
