
UB Volleyball Sweeps Past Western Illinois

CHICAGO, IL – The University at Buffalo volleyball program won its third straight match on Friday, opening the UIC Invitational with a 3-0 win over Western Illinois. The victory improved the Bulls to 5-3 on the season.
UB took the contest 25-19, 25-21, 25-16 as the Bulls outhit the Fighting Leathernecks, .235 to .098. WIU actually got off to the quick start in the match as it took a 6-2 lead, but a 5-1 run from UB tied the match up at 7-7. The Bulls continued their run and they took a 17-12 lead following a block from junior Akeila Lain. A pair of WIU attack errors gave the Bulls a 22-14 lead and UB went on to win the set 25-19.
WIU took a 9-5 lead in the second set, but a 6-2 UB run tied the set up at 11-11. The Bulls opened a late four point lead following a kill from junior Amber Hatchett and the Bulls hung on to win by that margin, 25-21.
The third set saw the Bulls get out to the early lead as UB scored the first six points of the set, including a pair of service aces from junior Tahleia Bishop. The Bulls led throughout the set as they took it 25-16.
Bishop finished with a match-high 13 kills, while Hatchett added eight and Sable Staller and Megan Lipski each had seven. Junior Marissa Prinzbach led the offense with 30 assists, while defensively, Bishop finished the double-double with 11 digs.
The Bulls also had six total blocks, including four solos, led by two from Bishop. Lain added two total blocks and Prinzbach had a solo as well.
UB continues play in Chicago tomorrow as they face the host Flames at 1:00 pm and then they will play Eastern Kentucky at 6:00 pm.
