
Bulls Fall In Four At Miami (OH)

BUFFALO, NY - The State University of New York, Buffalo volleyball team began its second round of matches with the MAC East on Friday evening, but the Bulls fell on the road 3-1 to Miami (OH). The loss drops the Bulls to 14-11 on the season and 4-7 in MAC play.
The RedHawks took the contest 25-14, 25-17, 24-26, 25-21 as they dominated the first two sets before the Bulls tried to rally late in the evening. After dropping the opening set 25-14, the Bulls came out in the second and scored the first three points, but Miami went on a 7-0 run to turn an 8-6 deficit into a 13-8 advantage. UB pulled no closer than 16-13 for the remainder of the set as Miami took it 25-17.
In the third, the RedHawks led 11-8 when the Bulls scored seven straight points to take a 15-11 advantage. UB continued to lead 22-17 following a kill from junior Marissa Prinzbach, but Miami pulled within 22-20. UB regained a 24-21 advantage, but the RedHawks fought off three set points before a kill from junior Tahleia Bishop gave the Bulls a 25-24 lead. A RedHawk attack error gave the Bulls the set and kept them alive in the match.
The Bulls got out to a quick 4-1 lead in the fourth, but a 10-3 lead put Miami ahead 11-7. Miami continued to lead 18-11, but the Bulls tried to make a late run. Trailing 21-15, the Bulls went on a 6-2 run to pull within 23-21, but the RedHawks scored the final two points of the set on back-to-back kills from Annie Reiswig to win the match 3-1.
Bishop led the way for the Bulls with another double-double as she had match highs with 17 kills and a career-best 29 digs. Juniors Megan Lipski and Akeila Lain each finished with eight kills, while freshman Cassie Shado added seven kills. Prinzbach had 35 assists to lead the offense.
In addition to Bishop's 29 digs, freshman Niki Bozinoski added 15 digs and Prinzbach finished with 12. Freshman Skyler Day had six kills and six digs. The Bulls finished with nine total blocks, led by four from Shado, who had two solos. Prinzbach and senior Sable Staller each added three blocks, including a solo a piece.
Miami (OH) won its sixth straight match as the RedHawks improved to 15-8 and 8-3 in conference play. Maris Below and Paige Hill each finished with 12 kills, while Krista Brakauskas finished with a team-high 26 assists. Meg Riley had 23 digs for Miami.
The Bulls remain on the road tomorrow when they face Bowling Green at 5:00 pm.
