BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo women's soccer team not only ranks as one of the best defensive teams in the Mid-American Conference, but they also rank inside the top-25 in multiple categories at the national level.
The Buffalo defense currently has held their opponents scoreless over the last 422 minutes of game play, the longest streak in the MAC this season. The Bulls have recorded four-straight shutouts for the first time since the 2011 season.
The Bulls currently rank in the top-25 in three defensive categories. Buffalo's highest national ranking is 18th in save percentage (.893) while they rank 20th in goals-against average (0.45) and 22nd in shutout percentage (.667) among 323 teams in the country.
The defensive core of Courtney Gross, Kristin Markiewicz, Natalie Jurisevic and Sophie Therien have provided great support for starting goalkeeper Ainsley Wheldon this season. The Bulls are allowing a MAC-low 4.67 shots on goal a game so far this season, leading to the Bulls recent five-game unbeaten streak and 3-1-2 overall record.
The MAC East leading Bulls also rank first in the conference in goals-against average, save percentage and shutouts through six games.
