BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo women's basketball team added a pair of experienced athletes to the roster, announcing the addition of Jenna Rickan and Ayana Bradley for the 2013-14 season. Rickan is a graduate student who has one year of eligibility left, and Bradley played for Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY and will have two years of eligibility.
Rickan transitions back to basketball after leading the women's soccer team at Syracuse for the past four seasons. She played in 62 games and made 43 starts with the Orange, scoring six goals with nine assists over that stretch. A strong student-athlete as well, Jenna was a member of the Athletic Director's Honor Roll and Big East All-Academic team. A captain for two seasons, Rickan served as president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes for Syracuse.
"We're excited to have Jenna join the team," head coach Felisha Legette-Jack said. "Not only was she a four-year letter winner at Syracuse, but she helped transform that team from being in the basement of the conference to being a contender. She stands for character, academics, and athletics, and we're excited for her to bring that professionalism to our team."
Bradley was a captain for two seasons at Corcoran High School in Syracuse, NY. She averaged a double-double as a senior and was an All-CNY third team athlete. She also competed in track and field. After that, she played at Monroe Community College, one of the top women's programs in the NJCAA. She averaged 9.8 points and 8.9 rebounds per game with 22 starts in her first season. She then sat out the past season with an injury.
"Ayana is an intense, self-made woman," Jack said. "She worked her tail off while she was at Monroe Community College and before that she was an unbelievable player in the city where I grew up, in Syracuse. She spent this past year rehabbing an injured leg all by her self, so she has earned the right to be a part of this team and this family. She's a hard-working, driven athlete who is going to be a great asset to our program."
The duo joins four talented freshmen added to a mix of eight letter winners that made the quarterfinal round of the Mid-American Conference tournament. Joanna Smith and Alexus Malone come to Buffalo from Mississippi, Nia Roberts from Florida, and Camera Miley from Brooklyn, NY.
"We are really excited about having local players staying home and becoming a part of our program," Jack added. "We're so happy to have a player like Sloane Walton on the team, and to bring Jenna back to Buffalo and to have Ayana come here from Syracuse means a lot to me."
