BUFFALO, NY - The CSCAA (College Swimming Coaches Association of America) announced its academic awards, with both the men's and women's team making the Scholar All-America Team nod. Two women's swimmers made the individual lists, while the men's team placed one swimmer on the team. Both teams earned a GPA that was above the department average, with the men just edging out the women by a 3.136 to 3.101 margin.
Brittney Kuras made the first team for the second straight Spring semester, and it follows a season where she was on the Mid-American Conference's All-Academic team and was the MAC tournament's Most Outstanding Swimmer. At the MAC Championships, she won three individual titles taking the 100- and 200-yard freestyles as well as the 200-yard individual medley to defend her league crown in all three races.
Additionally, Kuras was part of UB's winning 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relay teams. Competing at the NCAA Championships for the second consecutive year, she lowered her school record in the 100-yard freestyle (48.79), finishing 19th overall while also placing 35th in the 200-yard freestyle (season-best 1:47.05) and 53rd in the 200-yard individual medley (2:01.04).
Senior Karly Moore was named to the honorable mention team. The West Bloomfield, MI native majored in psychology and had a 3.667 GPA in the Spring and a cumulative GPA of 3.432. Competing predominantly in sprints, Moore had top five times among the team in four different events.
For the men's team, outgoing senior Matt Schwippert made the honorable mention team. Schwippert is the school record holder in the 100 and 200-yard backstroke events and a member of the school-record relay teams in the 200 and 400-yard medley relayus and the 800 Free Relay. At the MAC championships this past year, he finished second in the 100 butterfly but claimed gold in a pair of relays and made the All-MAC first team.
