ATHENS, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team dropped its fifth straight match on Saturday evening, falling 3-1 at Ohio. The Bulls have just one more road match left before closing out conference play with three straight at home.
The Bobcats took the contest 25-15, 25-15, 28-30, 27-25 as they hit .267 on the night. Ohio rolled to victories in sets one and two, but just like last night, it looked as if the intermission gave the Bulls a new life.
UB came out in the third and fought toe-to-toe with the MAC East leader, pulling out a long 30-28 victory. UB had its chances in the fourth set as well with a number of opportunities to send the match into a fifth set, but the host Bobcats came back and fought off the set points and went on to win, 27-25, to clinch the match.
Sophomore Tahleia Bishop led the way for UB for the second straight night as she had 17 kills. Senior Carissa McKenna added 12 kills and just three errors as she hit .429 on the evening. Sophomore Akeila Lain added nine kills and fellow classmate Megan Lipski added eight. Senior Dani Reinert had 28 assists.
Defensively, it was a career night for senior Kelly Svoboda, who finished with a career best 33 digs, one better than her previous career high. Senior Dana Musil added 15 digs and Reinert had 14. McKenna led the way with five total blocks, joining Lain for team-high honors.
The Bulls close out a five-match road trip on Thursday night at Akron. It will be UB's final regular season road trip.
