AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team was unable to hold on to a 2-1 lead on Thursday night, dropping a five-setter at Akron, 3-2. The match was UB's final one on the road this season and wraps up a stretch of eight of 10 matches away from home for the Bulls that spanned the month of October and into early November.
The Zips took the contest 25-21, 22-25, 20-25, 25-23, 15-13, despite the Bulls outhitting the host team for the night. After an Akron victory in the first, it looked as if the Bulls were going to be able to come away with a win as they had dominating performances in the second and third.
However, UB was unable to hold on to early leads in both the fourth and fifth sets, dropping its sixth consecutive match – five of those coming away from Alumni Arena.
Sophomore Tahleia Bishop recorded a new career-high 26 kills on a career-best 69 total attacks. Fellow sophomore Akeila Lain added 14 kills and junior Liz Scott, making her return to the lineup after injury, added 10 kills. Senior Carissa McKenna finished with nine kills and just one error. Senior Dani Reinert finished with 35 assists, while junior Taylor Pritchett added 25.
Defensively, reigning MAC East Defensive Player of the Week Kelly Svoboda finished with a match-high 27 digs, while Reinert added 16 and senior Dana Musil had 11. The Bulls had 14.0 total blocks as a team, led by eight from McKenna and seven from Lain.
The Bulls will round out MAC play with three straight at home, beginning on Saturday night vs. Toledo. Match is set for 7:00 pm.
