
Bulls Drop Conference Opener At Akron

AKRON, OH – The University at Buffalo volleyball team had a tough time defensively on Thursday night as they were swept in their conference opener at Akron, 3-0. The loss by the Bulls drops their record to 6-7 on the year.
The Zips took the contest 28-26, 25-17, 25-21 as they hit .311 for the match, opposed to just .114 for Buffalo. The Bulls had the early lead in the opening set as they took a 10-6 advantage, but the Zips went on a run late in the set and never looked back in the match.
Buffalo was led by nine kills from Liz Scott and seven kills from Dana Musil. Freshman Tahleia Bishop had five kills off the bench, while Christine Fritsche added four. UB had six serving aces on the night, three coming from junior Dani Reinert, who also finished with 28 assists and three kills.
Defensively, Musil and freshman Kasey Hollstegge each finished with eight digs, while Scott and Kelly Svoboda each finished with six. Four different Bulls each finished with two block assists.
Akron had two players in double figures in kills led by 13 from Tina Dimitrijevs and 11 from Paiton Twitty. Jill Paluch added 16 digs and Morgan Kuhn had 36 assists.
The Bulls remain on the road Saturday when they face Toledo at 3:00 pm.
