
Bulls Begin Shamrock Invitational With Sweep Of Eastern Kentucky

SOUTH BEND, IN – The University at Buffalo volleyball team hit the road for the first time on Friday afternoon, sweeping past Eastern Kentucky on the opening day of the Shamrock Invitational. The 3-0 victory was UB's first sweep of the season and improves its record to 3-1.
The Bulls took the contest 25-17, 25-22, 25-21 as they outhit Eastern Kentucky, .271 to .126. UB hit .462 in the opening set, its highest set total of the year. The Bulls followed that up with a .303 hitting percentage in the second set to take the commanding lead in the match.
A trio of Bulls had double figures in kills led by 11 from freshman Megan Lipski and sophomore Liz Scott. Freshman Tahleia Bishop added 10 kills and just two errors on 19 swings. Lipski, Scott and Bishop combined for 32 of UB's 41 kills on the night.
Defensively, junior Dana Musil led the way with 23 digs, while Scott added eight digs and five blocks. Freshman Akeila Lain led the way in the blocking category with 10 total blocks, including three solos. Fellow freshman Kayla Yingling saw the first action of her career, recording three digs.
The Bulls continue play at the Shamrock Invitational tomorrow night when they face the host Notre Dame Irish at 7:00 pm. Notre Dame defeated UAB 3-1 in its match tonight.
