BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo senior Brittney Kuras has been selected as the Mid-American Conference's Women's Swimmer of the Week. The league announced from its Cleveland headquarters today.
Kuras won a pair of freestyle races last Saturday to lead the Bulls to a MAC victory over Akron, 165-133, as she was the fastest swimmer in three individual races and was also part of a winning UB relay team. Kuras set a season-best in taking the 200-yard freestyle in 1:49.31, slicing more than three seconds off her mark from the WNY Invite on October 13. She also won the 100-yard freestyle in 50.84, in her first competitive swim at the distance this season. Kuras also was the top finisher in the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.70 as the Bulls exhibitioned the final two events after clinching enough points to earn the team victory. Kuras was also a member of the victorious opening relay as she combined with Claudia Doyle, Spencer Rodriguez and Mallory Morrell to win the 200-yard medley relay in a season-best 1:45.25.
"Congratulations to Brittney with this honor. She deserves it," said head coach Andy Bashor. "She has started off the season well because of her effort and consistency in practice every week."
This is the second MAC Swimmer of the Week award for Kuras. She last picked up the weekly honor on November 10, 2011 when she won three individual events and a relay at Ohio.
The Bulls (1-0, 1-0 MAC) travel to Colgate and Army for dual meets this weekend.
