
Bulls Sweep Season Series With Three-Set Win At Miami

OXFORD, OH - The University at Buffalo volleyball team picked up its first true road victory of the year on Saturday afternoon as they swept the Miami (OH) RedHawks for the second time this season. The win is UB's third in conference play.
The Bulls took the contest 25-20, 25-16, 25-22 as they outhit Miami .277 to .156. In the opening set, the two teams were tied at 16-16 when the Bulls went on an 8-3 run, forcing set point. The RedHawks called timeout and managed one more point before sophomore Liz Scott ended the set with a kill.
The Bulls went on to dominate the second set as they hit .517 and won convincingly. The set remained close at 12-11 when the Bulls went on a 6-1 run to take an 18-12 lead, capped off on a service ace from freshman Megan Lipski. UB would go on to lead by as many as nine in the set, ending it on a kill from freshman Akeila Lain.
UB took four of the first five points in the third set, but trailed late at 17-13. However, the Bulls answered with a 6-0 run, which came on the serving of freshman Kayla Yingling. Miami cut it back to one at 23-22, but a RedHawk error, followed by a double block from Lain and Scott sealed the set and the match for the Bulls.
Junior Dana Musil and Scott each led the way with 14 kills, while Carissa McKenna and Tahleia Bishop each finished with six. Playing in her second match back from injury, junior Dani Reinert dished out 40 assists, adding three kills and four digs. Reinert also finished with one of UB's six aces on the afternoon. Junior Kelly Svoboda led the way with two.
Svoboda also led the Bulls defensively as she finished with 21 digs, her fifth straight match 20 or more digs in a match. Lipski chipped in a career-high 13 digs, while Yingling had nine and Musil added seven. Lain finished with four blocks, including one solo, while McKenna and Scott each had three.
The Bulls will conclude the regular season next weekend at home when they host Ohio on Friday night at 7:00 pm and Kent State in the final match at Alumni Arena on Saturday.
