DEKALB, IL – Despite a furious first-set comeback on Friday evening, the University at Buffalo volleyball team was unable to pull off a road upset, falling at Northern Illinois, 3-0. The contest was UB's third of four straight road matches.
The Huskies took the contest 25-23, 25-14, 25-16 as they hit .229, opposed to UB's .082. The Bulls had an opportunity in the opening set as they were able to overcome a 19-12 deficit to take a late 23-22 lead in the set. However, that would be UB's final point of the set as NIU took the final three points. The Huskies then road that momentum from the first set victory with wins in the second and third set.
Sophomore Liz Scott led the way for Buffalo with nine kills, while freshman Tahleia Bishop added eight kills. Defensively, junior Kelly Svoboda recorded 11 digs, while junior setter Dani Reinert added nine digs and a team-high 21 assists. Scott and freshman Akeila Lain both finished with four blocks, including one solo.
UB wraps up its four-match road trip tomorrow night when it faces Western Michigan at 7:00 pm.
